Thomas Partey has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal
Arsenal’s hopes of signing Thomas Partey have suffered a blow, with Atletico Madrid reportedly wanting to swap the midfielder for Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta had him on a list of targets before football was suspended but the impact of Covid-19 may put him out of reach.
Even during the league suspension Partey has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in recent weeks but Atletico are uncertain whether the Gunners would be able to afford his buy-out clause, which stands at £45million.
As revealed by The Sun, Atletico are anxious to get Oxlade-Chamberlain from Liverpool in a straight swap for Partey
Oxlade-Chamberlain has made 34 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions this season as he has bounced back from the injury problems that hindered him in previous campaigns.
Liverpool are probably not going to endorse the takeoff of Oxlade-Chamberlain, whose present contract at Anfield is set to run until the summer of 2023.
The England global’s capacity to play out wide or as a central midfielder makes him a valuable piece of Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
Like Oxlade-Chamberlain, Partey’s contract runs until 2023, yet Partey could well leave Atletico this summer if an appropriate offer is made
Partey, in the mean time, has earned a lot of applause for his performances for Atletico this season, with there being much interest in him from elsewhere.
